Homemade Basic White Bread Recipe / Classic Plain Homemade Bread / Basic Bread Recipe / Step by Step Basic Bread Recipe / Easy White Bread Recipe.

Homemade Bread is quite a surprisingly very simple recipe. Making fresh bread at your home is so exciting one. Once you make this and if time allows, you will never go for store bought Bread. I became so happy seeing my second home made plain bread. Dear all, you too can make it without much effort which is a joyful experience too. This plain bread is likely to be eaten as an accompaniment to a main meal.

I remember making this Basic Bread for the first time years back when I was in Nagpur, the ‘Orange City’ of India. I made the plain Bun first, and then I went for the plain bread. I don’t remember how I made it at that time, but remember quite well that I used my Mom’s hand written Recipe Book. That first successful loaf of bread attempt gave me so much confidence, there has been no looking back. The ingredients we use here are basic simple and accessible all around the world. That’s the one good part about this plain Bread. This bread is perfect for your breakfast, lunch or for dinner.

Guys, really and truly, my Homemade Bread turned out amazing. It had a very soft crust, light middle. Next time when i make it I’ll double the volume, so that I will have some left overs and can be used later. The best part of making this at your home is avoiding excess preservatives and sodium. Also it would save your money.

This one I made few months back and some of the steps images are missing from the folder!! I don’t know how it happened. In haste I must have messed up with some folders in the computer.  Pls. pardon me.

Here goes the recipe of Classic Plain Homemade Bread which is deliciously crusty on the outside, moist and chewy on the inside which tastes best just by themselves.. I recommend it to all of you. I hope you would try this and pls. don’t let yeast scare you..

Preparation Time: 3 hrs. (total)
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Servings: many
Yield: one loaf (9 × 12 “)

Ingredients for Making Bread:

(1) All Purpose Flour / Plain Flour – 3 ½ cups
(2) Active dried Yeast – 1 ¼ tsp.
(3) Luke Warm Water – 1 ¼ cup
(4) Sugar – 1 tbsp.
(5) Salt – 1 tsp.
(6) Vegetable Oil – ¼ cup
(7) Sesame seeds – to sprinkle on the top (optional)

How to Make Dinner Roll:

Measure all your ingredients. Take lukewarm water in a small bowl. Add Sugar in to this and mix well. Add the yeast and mix it with a spoon. Keep it aside till it foams up. Brush a loaf pan with melted butter or oil to lightly grease it. Sprinkle some flour and spread it all over the pan and keep it aside.

In another bowl, take flour and salt and combine well. Salt adds flavor. Make a well in the center and add water to the dry ingredients. Stir well with a wooden spoon first and then use your hand to do that work. Now check the yeast, it should be frothy on the top, if it’s still not frothy, let it rest for some more time. When your yeast gets frothy, stir well and pour this yeast water in to the flour mixture. Knead it well. Add in Oil and knead it well on a floured surface. Make sure that it’s all combined well. Close the lid and keep it in a warm place for a couple of hours till it is double in size. At this stage the dough will be soft and sticky.

When it is doubled in size, punch it down in the center with your fist. (Adjust the flour depending on the consistency of the dough. I have added ¼ cup flour more at this time to get the right consistency). Scoop the dough in to the greased loaf pan. Shape it to a loaf shape. Brush little oil over the dough. Sprinkle sesame seeds on the top. (optional). Cover it with a wet cloth or a cling wrap and keep it aside for another hour. Leave it in a warm area and let the dough doubles in size.

Pre-heat the oven for five minutes to 375 degree F / 190 degree Celsius. Bake the loaf for 45 to 50 minutes or till it’s golden on top and sounds hollow when tapped. When it is done take it out of the loaf pan and leave it to cool completely on a wire rack. (If left in the pan, the loaf will sweat and the crust will become soft). Cool for minimum 2 hours before slicing. Serve.

My Recipe Notes on Plain Bread:

(1) You can use Butter instead of Vegetable Oil.
(2) Yeast plays an important role in Bread making. It ferments and grows when combined.
(4) Get a good brand of Yeast. Using fresh yeast is the key to baking good bread.
(5) Use only lukewarm water to make yeast mixture. Adding yeast to hot water will kill the yeast.
(6) Kneading well is another key to get good bread. Kneading forms gluten which makes your bread soft.
(7) You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with Atta or whole wheat flour if you want.
(8) Adding sesame seeds will add a little bit of flavor. They actually pack a lot of flavor.
(9) You can spread some butter over the bread immediately the bread comes out of the oven.
(10) Cover the hot Homemade Bread with a clean kitchen towel, the steam from the bread will make it softer.
(11) This bread will stay fresh in an airtight container for two or three days or can be frozen for one month.

Happy Baking..

Cheers..

Seena.
