Bread Pakora Recipe / Bread Pakora without Potato Stuffing Recipe / Quick and Easy Bread Pakora.
Bhajis are akin to fritters and represent one of the easiest and most delectable snacks to prepare. They are a common evening treat in many Indian households and are also widely available as street food, particularly in South India. You can often spot vendors selling bread bhajis on roadsides, at exhibitions, beachside stalls, and in restaurants, frequently attracting long queues of enthusiastic customers.
Bhajis are an indispensable part of Maharashtrian cuisine, but their popularity extends beyond Maharashtra. You can find various types of bhajis not only in Kerala but also in other Indian states such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Typically, bhajis are enjoyed with a steaming cup of coffee or tea, enhancing their flavor and appeal.
My husband, Reji, is a bhaji enthusiast who enjoys all varieties of this delicious snack. He has a particular fondness for snacks with a hint of heat and spice. My own perception of bhajis underwent a significant transformation after I first tried them a few years ago. I find that bhajis pair perfectly with a steaming cup of tea. One of my favorite aspects of Bread Bhaji is its delightful texture – soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.
To make bhajis, start by creating a batter using Gram Flour (also known as besan flour or chickpea flour) mixed with rice flour. Dip slices of bread into this batter, ensuring they are well-coated, and then deep-fry them in hot oil until crispy and golden. This versatile batter can also be used to make a variety of other bhajis, such as Onion Bhajis, Potato Bhajis, Plantain Bhajis, or Chilli Bhajis, by incorporating the respective ingredients into the batter or using them as the base.
I have prepared Bread Bhaji multiple times, as it is remarkably easy to make. This time, too, it turned out to be irresistibly delicious, showcasing its consistent appeal.
Serves: 3 Calories: 82 / 1 bhaji Author: Seena
Ingredients for Bread Bhaji:
Bread Slices – 8
Besan flour – 1 ½ cup
Rice Flour – 2 tbsp.
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp.
Cumin Seeds Powder – 2 pinches
Asafoetida Powder – 1 pinch
Homemade Garam Masala Powder – 2 pinches
Baking soda – a pinch
Coriander chopped – one fist full
Oil – for deep frying
Salt – to taste
Water – to make the batter
How to Make Bread Pakora:
Slice the bread and then cut each into 2 equal portions. Keep it aside. Sift the besan flour into a bowl. Take all equipments required to make Bread Bhajis. Arrange a kitchen tissue on a plate.
Take a bowl and add all ingredients except water and mix it with a spoon. Add water little by little and whisk it well till you get the right consistency. The batter should be thick and flowing. It should be not too thick or too watery.
Heat enough oil in a wide pan on medium high to deep fry. Drop a pinch of batter into the oil. If the drop fluffs up and floats, then the oil is hot enough to start making bhajis. Now reduce the flame to medium low.
Take one bread slice and dip in the bhaji batter to coat well on all sides. Slide these well coated breads immediately into the hot oil. Let it cook till the frying noise stops. Now flip it and fry the other side too. Deep fry them till you get golden colour bread bhajis. When it is done, remove it with tongs to a kitchen towel to drain out the excess oil. Continue the process with the rest of the breads.
Delicious and tempting Bread Bhajis are ready. Serve bhajis with ketch up, coriander chutney and with a hot cup of tea / coffee.
My Recipe Notes on Bread Pakora Recipe:
1. I have used regular bread. Milk Bread also goes well for making this. You can cut the breads slices crosswise like a triangle.
2. You should be very careful while you make batter for making Bread Bhaji. It should not be too thin or not too thick.
3. Adding rice flour or semolina will make bhajis little crisp.
4. You can adjust the spiciness to suit your taste buds and liking.
5. The oil should be hot enough to make these Bread Bhajis, otherwise bhajis will absorb more oil. As I have mentioned earlier, to test the temperature of oil, put one or two drops of batter into the oil. If it pops up immediately to the surface of the oil, it’s the right temperature to make Bread Bhajis.
6. Keep the flame always on low medium.
7. You can add carom seeds if you prefer its taste.
Happy cooking..
Cheers..
