We‘re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness — and call it love — true love - Robert Fulham, True Love
Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs - William Shakespeare
Valentine’s Day was first associated with romantic love in high middle ages. In 18th Century England, it evolved into an occasion to express love by presenting the traditional gift, a bouquet of Red Roses, confectionaries, gifts etc. To know more about Valentine’s Day

It also says that, Valentine’s Day as a memorial of Valentine. It is a day that celebrates the love of St. Valentine for a woman whom he loved so much that he sacrificed his life for her. So people celebrate February 14th of every year as a day to show their love to their loved one, how much she/he means to them. It is a day reserved for lovers. It’s a day which we express our love to the people we love. But, I don’t believe Valentine’s Day is only for couples. I believe it’s for all the people who have their special person in their life to whom on that day they can express their love. It’s not necessary that someone need an opposite gender to be one’s valentine. The one who makes you happy would be the valentine for you, right?

Personally I think Valentine’s Day does not just stand for of its origin and related reasons. It should be a day to celebrate love even with friends and family. However, it has become a day to expect expensive outings and exchange gifts. Now it has become commercialised and a day that businesses make profits. It’s an occasion for the shop owners to amass profit..

This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday, a holiday for all. So there is ample time to plan a lot in advance, how to celebrate it, with whom to spend time to express our joy, happiness and feelings. It’s an occasion when we remember our loved ones; the loved ones are getting emotionally driven on this day. We celebrate it in many ways. It is a day people celebrate with so much amusement and merriment in all countries around the world.

People celebrate almost all festivals whether it is religious or emotional. Valentine’s Day also known as the Saint Valentine’s Day is getting very popular these years. How do we celebrate Valentine’s Day? It is celebrated by going out with loved ones, spending time in some tourist spots, dining out etc., Everybody has their own way of celebrating it.

What comes to your mind first when you think about Valentine’s Day? For me the ‘Red Colour’, the dress colour code of the valentines.. What about you?

I think it’s time the tradition of Valentine’s Day be restored, a day to celebrate love with everyone we love around us. It’s obviously an unwelcoming day for the people who don’t have their loved ones or to remember something positively.

For me Valentine’s Day is a lovely day full of appreciation, love and care to get from our loved ones. I have been planning to make Valentine Heart Cookies since long and couldn’t do it and the reasons are numerous.

Here goes the recipe of Valentine Heart Cookies

Preparation Time – 15minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients for Valentine Heart Cookies:

2 cups All Purpose Flour.
1 ¾ cup Unsalted Butter, room temperature.
1 cups Icing Sugar.
¼ cup Custard Powder.
½ cup + 1 tbsp. Milk Powder.
1 ¼ tsp. Baking Powder.
1 tsp. Vanilla Essence.
2 large Eggs.
¼ cup Strawberry Jam.
1 tbsp. water.
Powdered Sugar for dusting.

How to Make Valentine Jam Cookies:

Preheat oven to 180 ̊C. Grease 2 baking trays. Line these trays with baking paper.

Take Butter in a bowl of electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat it for few seconds. until fluffy.
Add Icing sugar and increase the speed of your electric mixer. Beat it until the sugar grains are super fine by scarping the bowl occasionally. Add the eggs mixing in one at a time. Slowly add flour in the mixer bowl, beat it until it gets combined well and the mixture is fluffy. Gather the flour towards the centre with a rubber spatula or a wooden spoon and beat it once again.

Now reduce the mixer speed of your electric mixer to low and add the rest of the ingredients and blend again slowly until it is mixed well. Now divide the dough into two equal portions. Lay a plastic wrap on your counter. Take one part and put it between two plastic wraps / sheets or wax paper. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin to about ¼ inch thick. Peel off the plastic sheet from the top and and then cut out the shapes with a round cookie cutter to get 7cm round cookies. Do the same with the other part of the dough, what you have done with the first part of the dough.

Gently press a 5cm heart-shaped cutter into the centre of each round, With a 5 cm heart shaped cookie cutter, make hearts by pressing into the centre of each round. Cut out as many cookies as you can. Keep aside the scraps. You can combine it with the scraps from the second disk, roll it, cut it again with the cookie maker and make more cookies. Now place the heart shaped cookies on the top of the round shaped cookies. Take jam in a bowl and add one tbsp. water. Mix it well with a spoon, so that it would be little more pliable before dolloping on the cookies. Take a piping bag and fill it with the jam. Cut out the edge of the piping bag slightly. Fill each heart shaped space with jam starting at the edges of the hearts and then towards the centre. Don’t fill the hearts with the jam too much. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the top of all cookies.

Transfer these cookies to the baking sheet by leaving little space between the cookies. Bake the cookies at 170 degree Celsius for 15 to 18 minutes or until it turns golden brown rotating the sheets halfway through baking. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to completely cool. Valentine Heart Cookies are now ready for serving.

Serve Valentine Heart Cookies / Custard Cookies with jam Garnish with your valentine and your loved ones.

My Recipe Notes on Valentine Heart Cookies:

> Vegetarians can use 125 ml milk instead egg.
> This recipe makes so many cookies. If you want you can halve the ingredients to fit your needs.
> If you find that you have excess dough, you can keep it in the freezer wrapping with a plastic sheet or in the zip lock bag. It will remain fresh for two weeks.
> Don’t beat the dough so much once the dough is incorporated. If you see any dry crumbs at the bottom or on the sides bring it to the centre and mix well until it disappears in the dough.
> Allow cookies to cool completely before filling jam.
