Tamarind Chutney / Imli ki Chutney

Chutney is a tangy and spicy sauce. Tamarind Chutney is sweet and tangy. We can see a large variety of chutnies.. Indian chutneys are very famous all around the world. We usually take
Coriander Chutney , Mint Chutney, Tamarind Chutney etc., as accompaniments with almost all Indian snacks and appetizers. Tamarind Chutney is a good accompaniment for chats, pakodas, puris, pakkoras, patties, samosas etc.

Here goes the recipe of Tamarind Chutney.

Preparation Tme: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients for Making Tamarind Chutney:

2 tbsp. Tamarind Pulp
¾ cup Water
½ cup Jaggery (powdered and heaped)
1 tsp. Red Chilly Powder
¼ tsp. Roasted Cumin Seeds
¼ tsp. Ginger Powder (optional)
¼ tsp. Garam Masala (optional)
Salt to taste
 
How to Make Tamarind Chutney:


Take 2 cups of hot water in a bowl. Take a pan and add tamarind to this. Pour hot water little by little and mix well without leaving lumps.

Now switch on the stove and boil the diluted tamarind on medium to high heat by mixing it continuously. Add the jaggery to this and keep on stirring it till the jaggery melts completely.
Mix in Cumin powder, red chilly powder, ginger powder and garam masala powder to this.  Add salt too and mix well.

The exotic sweet, sour and tangy Tamarind Chutney is now ready to be served with
Chilli Bhaji / Mirch Bjaji or Vegetable Cutlet

My Recipe Notes on Tamarind Chutney:

> Adjust the chilly powder and salt according to your taste buds.
> Instead of Jaggery you can use Dates too.
> Adjust the jaggery according to your tatse buds. If you add more jaggery it will give sweet taste and less jaggery gives sour taste.
