Greetings, blog readers.. Thank you all for your visits, likes, comments and shares – It means so much to us!!

ICC World Cup Cricket carnival 2015 is at the peak now and all Indians are thrilled to have their team playing at its best and reach Semi – Finals level.

Do try this today itself and enjoy it while watching Cricket World Cup Semi-finals on Television. Of course you can have a beer / champagne along if your team is winning..

Nothing warms you up during the winter season better than a beef curry with steaming rice or chappathi!!

This beef curry is such a common recipe in most  Christian homes, a regular visitor in Kerala kitchens especially on Sundays and on weekends. Unfortunately some of our friends in some parts of India will not be able to try this now, thanks to …….

You all know that, for Christians, this is the Lenten season and all are preparing for Passion Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Good Saturday and Finally Easter. You must be thinking I have used non veg during this time.. No way.. This recipe and it’s pictures were there in the draft for about many months and as Easter is around the corner, I thought of adding this as my next recipe..

Beef is very good during winter time to warm up our body. So when the cold wintry weather calls you for some hot or warm meals, having beef is the best option as it is the antidote to winter. But do keep watch on your cholesterol level!!

This is quick, easy and budget - friendly recipe too. You can keep this curry in the refrigerator for two or three days and just re heat it before serving , in either the microwave oven or on the stove top.

Here comes the complete procedure of making Nadan Beef Curry.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Serves: many

Ingredients for Making Kerala Style Beef Curry

For marination:

Beef - 1 kg
Salt 2 tsp.
Chilly Powder – 2 tsp.
Lemon Juice – 1 tsp.

Other Ingredients:

Big Onion /savala (chopped) – 2
Green Chilly (slit) – 1
Ginger (julienned) – 1 " piece
Garlic (julienned) – 5 pods
Tomato (medium) – 2 nos
Curry Leaves – 2 sprigs
Chilly Powder – 1 tbsp.
Corriander Powder – 2 t sp.
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp.
Homemade Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp.
Meat Masala – 1 tbsp.
Pepper Powder – 1 tsp.
Corriander leaves – a handful
Coconut Oil – 3 tbsp.
Salt – to taste
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp.
Water – 2 cups

How to Make Kerala Traditional Beef Curry:

Clean beef and cut into small medium sized pieces. Wash it well again and keep it in a colander to drain out all water. Marinate the beef with little salt, chilly powder and lemon juice and keep it in the refrigerator.

By that time, heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds. When it starts cracking, add sliced Onions and sauté it for a minute. When it is translucent, add garlic and ginger paste, green chilly. Sauté well till a nice aroma comes out. Now reduce the heat and add all the spice powders. Sauté well till oil starts separating from the masala. Add curry leaves at this point. Next, mix in beef and coriander leaves. Stir well till the masala gets coat the beef well. Now add salt and mix well. Add water (refer notes) and mix well.

Cover it with the lid of the pressure cooker and cook on high for the first two whistles. Reduce the heat to low and cook for few more whistles (roughly 10 minutes). Switch off the flame and allow cooling before opening the lid. The aromatic, yummy Nadan Beef Curry is now ready for serving..

My Recipe Notes and Tips on Beef Curry Gravy:

* This curry can be prepared without marinating also. I personally prefer it this way.
* Nadan Beef curry can be served with plain Basmati rice, nadan kuthari choru, or naan or chappathi.
* You can adjust the consistency of the gravy as per your liking.
* If you add more onion in this curry, it would be sweet. So it’s better not to increase the quantity of onion. You can even use shallots / small red onions, in that case use 1 ½ cups of sliced shallots.
* You can use whole spices instead of Garam Masala Powder.
* In order to mild the heat of the curry, you can use Kashmiri Chilly Powder. You will get attractive red colour dish in such case.
* Beef will start oozing out water so much while cooking. So those who don’t want more gravy, it’s better not to add more water while cooking.
