Because of that reason itself, my kitchen and sweets are just strangers..  But now I am forced to make these sweets, otherwise I will be left alone in the field of food blogging.. My favourite is Caramel Custard; I love it very much without getting bored of that dessert; and that’s the reason I had made it as the first Recipe post in my blog..

Well, coming back to this Milk Peda, also known as Dhoodh Peda is very simple and easy to make. The traditional way of making this Milk Peda is with Homemade Paneer or Khoya that obviously takes a considerable Time. I had decided to make it first with Homemade Paneer as one of the ingredients. Running short of time for me; it was out of option for the moment. So later I changed the idea of making it with paneer and shifted to making Pal Peda or Milk Peda with Condensed Milk and Milk Powder as main ingredients which take hardly 15 minutes to make .

My special intention is to make this sweet dish as a part of the festival of ‘Diwali’.. This Milk Peda is a very common, traditional sweet dish prepared during festive occasions especially for Diwali, a festival of Indians. I can imagine most of you making preparations to celebrate Diwali; and the women folk busy with making so many Diwali dishes. I heard my colleagues discussing every day for the last two weeks about Diwali..

The colour, texture and taste of this Milk Peda I made were intensely great.

Here I am sharing a quick version of Milk Peda; I made around 22 pedas. To get an additional flavour, you can add saffron.

Preparation Time: 3 minutes.
Cook Time – 13 minutes.
Yield – 22 pedas
Calories - 411 / 100 grams

Ingredients for Milk Peda:

Unsalted Butter – 3 tbsp
Dry Milk Powder – 2 cups
Sweetened Condensed Milk – 1 cup
Cardamom - 2
Pistachios – a handful (for garnishing)

How to Make Doodh Peda:

Take a big bowl and add Milk Powder. Slowly add the condensed milk and combine it well to a smooth paste without forming lumps.

Take a saucepan or a non-stick pan and place it on a stove on medium heat. When it is hot enough, add the butter. Let it melt completely. Now add the milk powder and condensed milk mixture. If you are using saffron milk, add it now at this stage and mix it. Stir continuously until it becomes a thick batter and becomes a mass. Turn off the heat as soon as the mixture thickens.

Transfer it to a bowl and set aside to cool for 10-15 minutes or until it is cool enough to handle. The mixture gets thickened and looks little darker in colour when it cools.
Grease you palm with few drops of oil or butter. Take small portion of the cooked dough and make balls and flatten it slightly with your palm. Then dent in the centre with your thumb and tuck the chopped pistachios. Arrange it in a tray. Keep it aside for setting. Refrigerate and use it. The yummy sweet Milk Peda is ready now for serving.

My Recipe Notes on Milk Peda:

1. Mixing of Milk powder and Condensed Milk should be done in quick motions to avoid the mix getting hard.
2. I have added 5 sticks of butter(10 grams each) 1 tbsp of butter is almost 15 grams.
3. You should constantly stir the dough
4. Over cooking of the peda dough could make it dry.
5. No sugar is required here as Condensed Milk and Milk Powder already have sugar.
6. Don’t add extra Condensed milk as it makes the peda dough soggy.
7. This Milk Peda tastes better the next day.
8. I have added a pinch of brown food colour with the last portion of the dough to give a touch of another colour to few of them.

The pedas look amazing... dear, please do not make stuff that you or your family wont eat... I have suffered in the name of blogging, have bought ingredients paying so much, finally when I cook and serve, though I like it, my folks wont touch it! What is the point in blogging then? :) Having said that, these pedas if made at home would definitely disappear without trace...
