French Fries…. Unavoidable snack for kids, isn’t it? Imagine how it would be if these yellow coloured French Fries transform in to colourful shining fries in your plate!! Yes, I can very well say that you too will admit and appreciate this amazing change

We can include Chili Frites as an appetizer or as a main dish or as a starter. Because, if we have one plate of Chili Frites or Chili Potato Fries then there is no need to go for any other dish. Most of us Indians will concede the fact that we search for Chili Frites in the menu card when we go to restaurants. This is one of my favourite appetizers and I found it in Indian Restaurants here and have it regularly after coming to this place.


I can admit that slowly I started getting addicted to this dish. So whenever we go to restaurant, my husband includes this item as one of the starters even without taking my consent for that.. I have to declaim here hat he is a guy who hates French Fries and I love it..  I am indebted to one manager of a restaurant over here for the recipe of this appetizer. After having this chilly frites several times from the same restaurant in this place, I got the courage to ask the manager of the restaurant  for the recipe. With much pleasure he brought a paper and pen and started explaining and scribbling the recipe on the paper. Hehe.. You know how much happy I was that day while going back home with the recipe of my favorite one.  I should say here that I did some google search to get the recipe of this and I failed miserably in my attempt.

I seriously doubt if there is any other name for this?


Next comes the practical side of making it. I didn’t wait for many days to make it. It’s so great when you can cook the things you crave for!! The next day itself I tried this and thank God it came out awesome, I could say that the best chilly frites I have ever seen in my life, both in look and taste!! I was so happy to see my favourite chilly frites in front of me on my own plate in my house, which I myself made!! Then I decided to do it quite often.

I hope almost everyone knows how to make French fries. It can be made effortlessly and quick. I am sure this delicious French fries are loved by all age groups and can be served as snack or an appetizer. Try this lip smacking Chili French Fries, which just speaks to you in ways you can never imagine. Here goes the recipe of Chili Frites / Chilli Potato Fries.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 2
Cuisine: Indo Chinese

Ingredients for Chili Potato Fries:

Frozen French Fries – 2 cups
Capsicum (deseeded) – ½ cup
Carrot (cut it in to coin shapes) – ½ cup
Onion (cut in to squares) – ½ cup
Garlic cloves (crushed) – 2 (medium sized)
Scallions – 2 tbsp (diced)
Soya Sauce – ½ tbsp.
Chilly Powder – 1 tsp.
Cumin Powder (optional) – 1/8 tsp.
Ajinomotto (optional) – 1 pinch
Salt – to taste
Pepper powder – ¼ tsp.
Olive Oil or vegetable oil – 1 tbsp.

How to Make Chili Potato Fries:

Bake fries in the oven as directed on the package.  Cut veggies as said above and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan. Add garlic and sauté on medium high flame. Add vegetables in sequence of their tenderness. Then add onion and sauté till onion gets translucent. Now add capsicum and sauté for another two minutes. Add carrot and sauté for few minutes. Add ajinomotto, salt and pepper. Toss it. Add Soya sauce and mix well. Cook for ½ minute. Add the baked French fries and toss the contents till it’s well combined. Remove from fire.

Garnish with spring onion greens. The delightful Chili Frites / Chilli Potato Fries are ready to be served. Serve it with tomato ketchup, pili pili or mayonnaise.

My Recipe Notes on Chili Frites:

1. You can even use homemade French fries. 
2. You can try this recipe with Sweet Potato too.
3. Cook it a little longer if you want it crispy.
4. Be careful while adding salt, as ajinomotto or MSG and soya sauce are salty ingredients.
5. I don’t advice using MSG (to be frank, I didn’t use it here) since I am a health conscious person.
6. MSG – Mono Sodium Glutamate.


Serve Chili Frites / Chili Potato Fries..
